The late Elliott Smith is to be featured singing on a new album by the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion.

The band, who will release the album ‘Damage’ in the autumn, are currently mixing the album in New York. The album, the follow-up to ‘Plastic Fang’ in 2002, is again produced by Steve Jordan and Alan Moulder with contributions from DJ Shadow, David Holmes, Chuck D and Martina Topley-Bird.

According to Jon Spencer: "This is the mother of all Blues Explosion records!... We even have some crazy guy playing shark's teeth and sheep testicles!" Shortly before his suicide in October 2003, Elliot Smith recorded with the group and the album will be the first to be released posthumously.

Smith’s last album ‘Songs From A Basement To A Hill’ was rejected by his US label Dreamworks. Now his friends and family are seeking to release the album themselves with the help of producer Rob Schnapf of Figure 8.
