Kasabian have angrily hit out at journalists comparing them to Manchester bands like The Happy Mondays and The Stone Roses.
Speaking to Gigwise, frontman Tom Meighan insists that the band have no connections at all to the scene and their new album ‘Empire’ is “bigger” than it.
In fact Meighan believes that Kasabian have much more in common with the rock monoliths of old.
He blasted: “What I reckon it was, people put us in there with The Stone Roses because of the vibe we played when we arrived, but now we’re turning into a Led Zeppelin like rock and roll band.”
Referring to a publication comparing new track ‘Shoot The Runner’ to The Happy Mondays, Meighan ranted: “Its just shit journalism, I hate it. It’s shit. They are shit; they are shit at what they do. We’re not ****ing Happy Mondays!
“We’re not ****ing keyboard music; it’s got nothing to ****ing do with it. You know, Shaun Ryder… all they did was ****ing do dance beats man. We’re more than that, give us credit for ****s sake. You know I love the Mondays.”
“But come on, the ****ing Stone Roses only had one ****ing album you know, I don’t understand what the fuss is about… you know Mani will have my back on this one as well. It’s just laziness, man.
“This album proves that its ****ing more than that, it’s bigger than that man, it’s bigger than that.”
He finished: “Honestly, I swear it is. I’m not dissing it. The Manchester scene is amazing and I love it and I love all them bands but we’ve never been anything to do with them… None of them.”
