One of the elder statesmen of Australian indie-rock, Bernard Fanning was the front man of the largely undervalued Powderfinger (Outside of their homeland anyway). ‘Wish You Well’ is the first single from his new solo album ‘Tea & Sympathy’ and that’s all the good things we can say about it. The song is two and a half minutes of staid, stale MOR rock made for easy listening radio stations and drive time compilations. Its blander than the beige suit Fanning wears on the singles cover and a true disappointment is a generally great year for Aussie music. Maybe its time for this elder statesman to hang up his plectrum.
