The New York Dolls have been added to the Manchester Move Festival line up.

They will support headliner Morrissey who has dragged them out of retirement to perform at Move and The Meltdown Festival.

The ex-Smiths frontman was once president of his local New York Dolls fan club and still is a massive fan.

According to MTV, Morrissey contacted the former Dolls singer David Johansen personally. "That was the last thing on my mind," Johansen explained, "But I thought about it for a couple of days and thought, ‘That could be a hoot’."

"He called and said that he was the president of his local New York Dolls fan club as a kid, they have not been in the same room for years. There has been absolutely no animosity in our discussions."

The original line up is unfortunately no more. The new line up that will be performing at the Move and Meltdown bashes will feature Izzy Stradlin formally of Guns ‘n’ Roses in the place of Johnny Thunders and Libertines drummer Gary Powell will be filling in for the late Jerry Nolan.

The Move Festival takes place between 8 -11 July. Morrissey’s Meltdown runs until June 27.
