With Micro, Leicester young guns Redcarsgofaster’s intro is akin to Clap Your Hands Say Yeah’s ‘Lost & Found’, but instead of meandering off into that whimsical country tinged utopia Clap Your Hands do so well, Redcarsgofaster go much more brutal. With vocals that are aggressive yet nonchalant and booming drums that give ‘Micro’ depression era angst the overall feel is a delightfully masochistic affair. ‘Micro’ is an indie gem with added bite and a sharp edge due to guitars so spiky they could do some damage. The result is a track that sounds like the Rakes with a hangover. Superb.
‘I Am The Storm’ packs a punch so hard it could have been released on its own and still better its contemporaries. Starting off all booming drums and sneering cynicism provided by frontman James, there may be less agro than Micro but there is still that full on force - think Pink Flag era Wire crossed with Bloc Party. It certainly has that angular bite fans of the Bloc relish so much.
