Bob Geldof can organise gigs watched by millions but seemingly can’t get anyone to watch himself play live.
The former Boomtown Rat has beaten a hasty retreat from his current Italian tour after just 45 fans turned up to the first gig at a venue with a capacity of 12,000.
Geldof was due to play the Civic Arena on Friday (July 21) but refused to go on stage according to the Guardian when he saw that only a few dozen fans were in attendance.
He apparently then fled back to his hotel in a taxi where he packed his bags and following a meeting with the tour promoter cancelled a show in Rome the following night.
Tickets have been refunded to those that attended the show, whom Geldof apparently told, "There aren't the right conditions for a concert, it's not our fault," as he gave out autographs.
Italian newspapers covered the story with headlines of ‘Il Flop’ over the weekend and compared it to Robbie Willaims’ Rome show which was attended by 73,000 people.
Geldof also cancelled shows in Italy back in 1999 due to a supposed “sore throat” but rumours were abound at the time that it was also due to poor attendances.
