Lily Allen has been rewarded for missing out on a Mercury Music Prize nomination with a £20,000 bonus from her record company.
The singer’s debut album ‘Alright, Still’ was hotly tipped to make the Prize’s shortlist, which was announced on Thursday, despite only being released on Monday.
However, Lily’s been given the equivalent of a Mercurys winning cheque by Regal anyhow, as an acknowledgement of her extraordinary success so far, including a current number one for her debut single 'Smile'.
A source tells the Daily Star, who have been banging on about Allen for months, “Behind the scenes it was widely expected Lily would be on the Mercury list as she's an innovative performer with genuine lyrics.
“Her label thought the Mercurys would love her. When the nominees came through, Lily was naturally dismayed but didn't let it get her down. But her team thought she deserved a perk and have put £20,000 in her bank account."
Lily 'erself ain’t dat bovvered by missing out on the Mercurys. She says, “It’s nice to be nominated, but look at the previous winners. Where are they now?”
