Sad news melancholic rock fans – The Ivories have just announced they’re making like a banana and splitting.
The brooding all-girl band - well loved by Gigwise - were part of the burgeoning Leeds music scene, releasing two singles on the 48 Crash label.
However, after looking for a replacement for bassist Cathy Russell for several months, remaining members Helena Gee, Emma Rowe and Anna Prior have decided to go their seperate ways and leave the position permanently vacant.
However, defiant singer Helena has vowed to carry on The Ivories' torch – and possibly the moniker.
Writing on the band’s MySpace page she says, “If you haven't heard already, the rumours are unfortunately true. The current Ivories line-up have parted ways.
“Only a month before we got to play Leeds/Reading, which was my dream as a child. However, I am continuing alone and may possibly continue as The Ivories. I don't know yet.”
Helena adds that she’s already chomping at the bit to unveil her new solo material.
She adds, “I've got tonnes of new songs, some of which will be on my space to listen to soon. And some special acoustic shows to announce. Please continue your support, you've all been great. ITS NOT OVER!”
That’s the spirit!
