The kind of music that you can’t not dance to, Velofax have harnessed some really funky sensibilities mixed in with a little new wave guitar work. Their new self titled EP takes a slightly more funk riddled direction yet still keeps in with their original aesthetic.
Opener ‘Keep It In a Jar’ could have been written by the Rapture but the difference here is that this song actually sounds good, as it comes across as a sweaty disco dance-floor filler with some blur-esque bass lines that are as cool as a cucumber, but it is not until the last minute or so that this tune really gets under way with some cool guitars and a little groovy freak out.
‘Trendy Perplexed’ follows much of the same direction and is just as nice on the ears with some cow bell percussion and sci-fi guitar work. EP closer ‘Dappled Shade’ finishes off this release with a 6 minute new wave jam session complete with chaotic synth work that could get boring if you don’t have the patience to listen to some decent musicians having fun.
All in all a decent release from a band that could evolve into something great.
