This is emo kids but not as we know it, this is a circa 2001 vintage. Forget the post hardcore by numbers we’ve been exposed to over the last few years, forget the myspace clones with the floppy fringes and forget all the eyebrows from Busted trying to get some credibility. On ‘Chair Legs’ The Little Explorer gives us complex twisting guitars which Bloc Party would kill for and that tie you knots with their intricate movements. Vocals are sparse but perfectly poised between heartfelt and raw. The dose is repeated on ‘Air! Displace The Smoke’ with its incessant marching drums and deft picking interspersed with walls of cheese grater riffage. A tremendous antidote to their shiny, overproduced and heartless American cousins - lets hope they take notice.
