Chris Martin is crying into his Foster’s after putting £10,000 on Australia to reach the semi-finals of the World Cup.
The Coldplay frontman is currently touring Down Under and got swept up in the Australian’s enthusiasm for their little Socceroos and placed ten biggies on their progress. What a mug. As all respecting World Cup watchers know, Australia lost in the second round to Italy this week. And it was a penalty, ok?
However, Martin believes England – who play their Quarter-final against Portugal in a matter of a few nerve-wracking hours – could benefit from the Aussie spirit (you know, that spirit which annoys every decent Englishman).
He whines to the Daily Mirror, “I lost a lot of money because I gambled on Australia getting to the semi-finals. If you play with that much passion, you deserve to do well. England need a bit of that Aussie passion. We need to be thinking, 'We could die tomorrow, so let's start playing the best we can.’"
