Mick Jones has been speaking out about his life with The Clash, his relationship with Joe Strummer and his love of The Libertines.
Meeting through a friend involved with their label, Jones hit it off straight away with Pete Doherty, seeing resemblances between his song writing relationship with Strummer and that of Doherty and Carl Barat, speaking to Teletext he said, “Pete and Carl have the same fluidity we had. Joe would sit at a typewriter, have a great lyric by the time I'd had a coffee and I'd knock up a tune for it in a few minutes. That's how quickly The Libs do it - low boredom threshold.
Produced by himself and the legendary Bill Price, Jones is enthusiastic about the new album and the way the band have sorted themselves out since Doherty’s brush with the law, “(it is) Sensational. I can't believe how good they've got, even since Up The Bracket - and that was a great debut. A record as good as this only comes along once in a generation. Yeah, you had it with The Clash. And now it's The Libertines' turn. The lyrics on The Man Who Would Be King are as good as any I've heard. Everything that's happened to them in two years is on this record, and a lot has happened to them.”
Jones goes on tour this week with Tony James as dance duo Carbon/Silicon, the dates are:
Milton Keynes Pitz June 12
