Once upon a time in a land far far away (Well, South Wales) at a time before record deals, stylists, money and slick yet heartless production a band of valleys boys produced an album of such visceral intensity that it blew away the final decaying bones of nu-metal and prepared the British teenage public for the onslaught of emo and all its different guises. Lostprophets were actually that good. Fast forward five years and sadly this tale has taken some almighty downturns - blame the music industry, blame the band themselves but it won’t change a thing - the six boys from Pontypridd are now a mere shell of their once promising selves. And so we are faced with ‘Rooftops’, a pristine piece of shit from a band that now spend more time on their haircuts than on writing good songs. It makes us weep it really does as they roll out their heartfelt (For show only), pop-hardcore by numbers with the incisive central lyric of “Standing on the rooftops, everybody scream your heart out”. The B-side ‘Ordinary Life’ sounds like Bodyrockers for Christ sakes! We’re off to shed copious amounts of emo tears…:’(
