Royksopp - 'Beautiful Day Without You' (Wall of Sound) Released 26/06/06

Royksopp’s ‘The Understanding’ was easily one of the albums of 2005 – no question. But in a beguiling move our favourite Norwegian noiseniks have decided to release perhaps the weakest album track as a single. Admittedly, ‘Beautiful Day Without You’ is lovely and sounds transcendent on a sun-drenched Mediterranean island, but as a single it doesn’t pack any punch. Thankfully though the package excels elsewhere. An unlikely take on Queen of the Stone Age’s ‘Go With The Flow’ adds an electronic, emotive edge to the gritty original, the Rex the Dog mix of the lead tracks adds some acid tinged tech-house carnage, Cass and Mangan go all minimal on our asses and Wighnomy and Robag Whrumes add a celestial spine-tingling vibe.
