Gnarls Barkley’s ‘Crazy’ been knocked off the Number One spot after a nine week reign by Sandi Thom’s controversy-ridden ‘I Wish I Was A Punk Rocker’.
Major doubts have been raised over Thom's claims to have secured a major label recording deal after building up a six-figure audience for her ‘virtual gigs’ broadcast on the internet.
The controversy hasn’t stalled her ability to shift units though, with her debut single ending Crazy’s seemingly endless chart dominance.
However, this will be a rare case of a group celebrating being knocked off the top spot. Gnarls Barkley announced last week they were deleting the song, as they had become thoroughly sick of it.
Don’t worry though, at least it’s cleared the way for their upcoming single 'Smiley Faces' (probably the real reason for the Crazy’s withdrawal), a cracking Northern Soul stomper.
Elsewhere in the Top Ten, Keane leapt up 13 places to number three with 'Is It Any Wonder', whilst Pink’s ‘Who Knew’ was also a big climber, up 14 places to number five.
The biggest climber was actress Brittany Murphy’s collaboration with DJ Paul Oakenfold, 'Faster Pussycat Kill', which shot up thirty slots to take the number seven spot.
Nelly Furtado’s reinvention as a sex kitten secured a new entry at number eight with ‘Maneater’, whilst Primal Scream’s ‘Country Girl' – which gave the veteran band their highest ever chart position last week – faded from number five to number ten.
