No not Protocol, ‘Protokoll’ from good old Boston, Massachusetts. Despite having one of the most confusing dual names since Battle and Battles, the good news is that Protokoll shit on their British (almost) namesakes from an almighty height. Okay, cynics would say ‘Move Forward’ is derivative –the New Order, Chameleons and The Rapture benchmarks can be spotted a mile off, but importantly Protokoll use them bloody well. It’s a vivacious offering from the outset with its dynamic bass line shuddering throughout, the urgent vocals, the spiralling eighties-tinged guitars, synths… really in its retrogressive way it ticks all the right boxes.
