With the monster mask gimmick, Lordi were always going to win Eurovision weren’t they? How could the continent not fall for the Finnish mock-horror band with the comedy big-hair rock tune? In fact, ‘Hard Rock Hallelujah’ is so fucking cheesy and toe-curlingly naff it’s actually quite brilliant. Saturated with power chords, clichéd riffage, hilarious feigned scary vocal, de rigueur quiet segues and an almightily ostentatious finale, it’s enough to inspire you to dig out all those dusty Def Leppard records stagnating at the back of your record collection. Oh, it’s released on the 06/06/06 as well – how bloodcurdling is that?!
