Melissa Auf Der Maur has revealed more about her supergroup sideproject The Virgins.

Melissa plans to make it happen for the band, which includes Ryan Adams, Evan Dando and old Pumpkins band mate James Iha, after completing promotional work for her self titled album ‘Melissa Auf Der Maur’.

When asked about her plans for the band Melissa replied: "Ooooh, I love that people ask so much! It was my idea; there was one weekend in New York where I realised that my friend Ryan Adams had never met my friend Evan Dando, and I was like, 'You guys would get along so well!' I brought them together in my apartment in the Chelsea Hotel, handed them acoustic guitars and a couple beers, and we were there all three of us playing music.

"We were like five blocks away from our friend James Iha's studio," she explained to Playlouder, "and I had this idea, 'Oh my God, we should make a record! Let's just go down there next week and make this record'. Next thing you know, Ryan Adams's album Gold came out and just exploded. But I get asked that question enough that I've promised myself that next year I will be the ringleader to get the four of us into a studio for a week or two."

"All three of them have that jangle alternative country thing down," she explained, "so I'll come in and add the wispy vocals and the psychedelic ****-up within it. The idea we had was so simple: to go in, make it on the spot and come out with some crazy Velvet Underground-meets-psychedelic melancholy freak-out, and I really have a good feeling about it, so I'm gonna try to make it happen next year."
