Apparently Jason Lee from ‘My Name Is Earl’ fame lists Midlake as his favourite band and makers of one of the most important modern records around with ‘The Trials of Van Occupanther’. Okay. Despite the tenuous celebrity link, from listening to the wondrous ‘Young Bride’, the great man does have a point. It’s a heady brew of Mercury Rev-esque fragility coupled with triumphant segues, ethereal vocals, organic violins and hits home perfectly. Really it’s the kind of unadulterated music that transports you to other places and reminds you of the sheer beauty of life. We urge you to check out the album now.
