Danish duo The Raveonettes will begin recording their third album late this summer, and have said that their new material is “better than the Strokes”.
Expected in early 2005, the band have told fans to expect a more “serious” sound on the follow up to 2003’s ‘Chain Gang Of Love’.
"'Chain Gang of Love' was a strange take on American culture -- very '60s and '50s," said vocalist and guitarist Sune Rose Wagner. "This record is probably going to deal with more universal issues that more people can relate to.'Chain Gang of Love' was more a like a movie, fiction. Even though it has a lot of personal references, it has a funny sort of twist to it."
But people going to see the band on their current tour shouldn’t expect to gear any of the new material. "We don't rehearse," Wagner said to Billboard.com. "We record the album and then we figure out how to do it live."
The group are currently on tour opening for The Strokes in the US. Bassist/vocalist Sharin Foo thinks that it is a good pairing.
"This tour, for me, is perfect," said Foo. "It's a challenge for us to play the bigger. It seems like a good match even though we're quite different bands. Stylistically they have a more retro sound whereas we use a lot of samples. We're a bit more noisy and we're a sexier band as well -- the music is much sexier."
"The Strokes' songs are better than ours,” said guitarist and vocalist Wagner. “People like them better than they like us. I have nothing bad to say about them." But later added: "The new songs are better than the Strokes."
