Gorky’s Zygotic Mynci are splitting up after 15 years together.
Whilst the Welsh schoolmates have never given the charts much trouble, Gorky’s have been one of the most critically celebrated and creatively consistent British bands of recent years.
However, following recent solo albums from singer Euros Childs and guitarist Richard James, the four piece have decided to finally go their separate ways.
A statement on their website reads, “Gorky's Zygotic Mynci have decided to call it a day and split up.
"Richard, Megan (Childs), Euros and Pete (Richardson) would like to thank everyone who came to the gigs and bought the records over the years.”
BBC Radio’s Huw Stephens said the split was “amicable” and paid an emotional tribute to the band.
He said, “They were always criminally-ignored by the music industry. They are an amazing band. In my opinion they are one of the best bands Britain has ever produced."
“It is a shame but their back catalogue is massive - an incredibly diverse and eclectic collection.”
Part of that nine-album strong back catalogue, their first three offerings, Patio, Tatay, and Bwyd, are still being reissued as previously planned, and should be available before the end of the year.
