American studio boffin loses the plot in excellent Tropicana techno fury. If there is one thing to be trusted upon viewing the Ninja Tune logo on any CD release these days it’s that it’s not to be trusted. Weak releases from the likes of Pest et al have now made sure that they are not a label you buy purely for the sake of their moniker anymore. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing as although they may not push all the right buttons at all the right times as they used to but goddamn do they have more buttons to push. Enter Daedelus…

This is his fourth album in total and is the sound of him losing it, no collaborations, no boom bap or breaks just pure bleepy techno weirdness and is all the better for it. Gone is the smugness on ‘Exquisite Corpse’ replaced with a love of all things latin completely shaken up, sequenced and squelched to within an inch of it’s Warp-ed soul. ‘At My Heels’ is happy and energetic, ‘Viva Vida’ is a synth pop love in with vocals that sound like they’re being played at 33rpm on a seven inch and ‘Samba Legrand’ is just begging (though it’s unlikely to be) remixed for the Nu-Ibiza crowd. Further highlights include the brilliant single ‘Sundown’ and the non-stop relentless fun of ‘Samba Legrand’.

The only complaints you could level at this compilation of beats and tweaks is its length and some of the tracks on offer on here are quite samey. Having said that anyone that doesn’t become seduced by with  the samba rhythm, latino spirit and party techno vibes of this record may be dead. Deny the days demise indeed…
