No Doubt have started on the path towards a new album but without the presence of Gwen Stefani bassist Tony Kanal has revealed.
While Stefani is away having babies Kanal says that the bands new project is also at the foetal stage.
He told MTV: "I wouldn't even say this album is in its infancy. Its conception, if anything... It's so super-early on. We're easing into it. We're taking it very slowly, kind of just going in and writing here and there."
Kanal added that it is still too early to tell what the new material will sound like but he’s not ruling a change in direction out.
He said: "We've been doing this so long that if we try to set a place to go to, we'll never get there. So we're letting that road unfold in front of us."
"I'm sure we'll have the same influences, all the reggae and rock stuff we grew up on, and a bunch more, so we can go in a different direction as well."
