Originally released last autumn to an all too muted public response, thanks to the magnificent ‘Hoppipolla’ being used on the BBC’s Planet Earth everyone is vying for their piece of the glacial Icelanders. And thank **** for that, as ‘Hoppipolla’ is nothing short of wondrous – sweeping keys, sensory absorbing, cavernous, organic soundscapes and frontman Jon Thor Birgisson’s impossibly sonorous almost alien noises all make it nothing short of epic. Spine-tinglingly brilliant stuff, then – if the re-release gets more people into Sigur Ros, then that’s surely a great thing.

    • You swore! That’s hot! On a more serious note I knew you’d like this band because of their twaty name... the twatyer name the more room for pretentiousness. I heard you berating an undergrad in the ‘SU’ (as you call it) for pronouncing some band’s name wrong that you’d clearly made up anyway – you’re as cool as Jo Whiley.
