Mystery still surrounds the severity of Keith Richards’ head injuries with reports he is still in New Zealand recovering from an operation on a blood clot.
The New Zealand Herald reports that despite a Rolling Stones spokesman last week denying he needed the operation the guitarist is actually still in Auckland following medical treatment.
They also suggest that doctors at one point feared for his life and quote an unnamed source stating that he had the operation for a subdural haematoma last week.
Richards, 62, suffered the head injuries in Fiji after falling from a coconut tree; he was later airlifted to New Zealand for further treatment.
The Rolling Stones are due to resume their world tour in Barcelona on May 27.
