Larrikin Love: Don't Call Us The New Libertines!

Or Bloc Party, or The Futureheads....

May 07, 2006 by Chris Taylor

Larrikin Love are sick of being dubbed “the new Libertines”.

The up-and-coming four piece’s rock oeuvre has been likened to the now defunct Brit rockers – but the Larrakin’s believe such comparisons are down to “lazy journalism” – something Gigwse could never be accused of.

Guitarist Mick Larkin rallies in an interview with MusicOMH, “We're just so bored of it now. It's very lazy journalism.”

Frontman Edward Larrikin adds, “It's starting to fizzle out slowly. It's just so easy, I mean the fact that we don't do (angular guitar noise) y'know, Bloc Party beats, immediately you're The Libertines. And if you do that, you're Bloc Party, or The Futureheads.”

Would now be the wrong time to admit Gigwise thought their last single Edwould sounded like The Libertines with fiddles?

    • They sound like the Libertines, only with more fiddles. Anyone heard the Holloways yet?

    • Same cheeky cockney sound except it skanks a bit more. Not bad but not great.
