Mason may be undecided about his own music career but he’s pretty damn sure what should be done with those of America’s hip hop stars.
Mason has voiced his disgust at the current state of rap and says today’s crop are taking its legacy and “effectively wiping their arse with it”.
Speaking to the Fly Mason said of Hip Hop after a night spent watching MTV: “It hit me how nauseus and revolting this ‘pop’ form of hip hop is, and more importantly, how hip hop’s forefathers are having their memories sullied by the mass market rubbish pedaled in the name of ‘hip hop’.”
“Artists such as 50 Cent, Ja Rule and P Diddy are taking the intent of hip hop and effectively wiping their arse with it.”
And Mason says he blames a certain section of society for this generation of rap. “As it’s a black music form it’s difficult to criticise, but in this bizarre PC world I’m not even remotely having this viewpoint with any racist coonatation.”
“It’s white America that has bought and sold these artists as a commodity. There’s a view that by giving these artists wealth, it prevents them from exposing key issues. Like the originators of hip hop did.”
He finished by saying: “Look at the originators and what they achieved. Public Enemy were dangerous and organized – at one point Chuck D was saying that hip hop was like the daily news for certain sections of the young American generation.”
“Now these ‘icons’ are as dangerous as a cardboard box. Guns, women and cars? So what? We now have a collection of hijackers showing us how much money they have. It’s White Corporate America using money as the drug and not drugs as the money.”
