A top opera company in Berlin are set to stage a production based on the music of Gorillaz.
Titled ‘Monkey Journey the West’ the opera version of the music is being written by Damon Albarn and Chinese singer Chen Shi-Zeng will provide most of the vocals.
The actual opera is based on a book by sixteenth century Chinese writer Wu Cheng’en and follows the transformation of a monkey into a human.
The company behind the show Staatsoper will run the premiere of the opera on July 31.
Staatsoper say they are running the production in collaboration with Gorillaz to bring Opera to a younger audience.
