‘Who are the guys with those damn funky beats?’ we hear you say. Well that would be The Spheres, on this their debut single, ‘Phoenix Soul.’ With its blazing rhythms and soulful singing, it could easily be at home on the Shaft soundtrack, yet somehow it still retains enough elegancy to be the soundtrack to a romantic night in with a certain lucky lady. Nice. Second track, ‘My Baby By Me’ shows the other livelier side of their façade, taking on a faster beat and even more flair, and gets that foot tapping. Decent seventies funk nostalgia, then.
