Combining different parts of indie, rock, glam, post-punk and pop all into a big mash of an EP are 4ft Soldiers. Their sound is hard to classify, with the sheer variance in the style of their music, sounding like Towers of London crossed with The Rapture is the closest comparison Gigwise could muster.
The first track, ‘Get Laid’ is a stomping pub rock anthem with its driving bass lines, and shouty choruses, and shows the grubby, glam rock side to the band. Next track, ‘Hand Me Down’ shows off the post punk stylings, it’s an improvement on the first song, with its energy carrying the song through to the end. Finally, ‘Québec’ takes on a more indie profile, with Editors-esque guitar running throughout; although it keeps to a rock heart beat. A decent effort, but the variance in style just doesn’t work as well as it could.
