With a singer who comes across as a young John Martyn, 'Halfway Across' is a jangly pop affair, a lite-entry into their world of fine muscianship and erstwhile songwriting that saw them playing support on Beth Orton's recent tour. Spring-like in tone and demeanour with a down-home folksiness, the hands-a-pockets singer delivering - "You're the last tree standing/ and I won't cut you down..." to acoustic guitars, upright bass and some doopy-doo keyboards. It's a fair taster of the anticipated 'Mine At Last', scheduled for May 1 that'll be pricking your ears.
