James Brown is set to be awarded the Martin Luther King Jr award for his services to music.
The Godfather of Soul will be presented with the gong at a ceremony at the Sheraton New York Hotel on April 6.
Brown is deemed to have continued the work of the great man through his music.
He said in a statement: "It is nice to be thought of for such an honorable award that means so much to so many people.
“Dr King was a man who fought for our country, for better, harmonious relationships and for hope for a better world for everybody.
“I, along with many others have the utmost respect for such an inspirational life-leader. We can all relate to his beliefs and we continue to follow that dream."
