Morrissey has been forced to give up his adopted home in Los Angeles because too many people visited him there.
The former Smiths singer originally left his native Britain for the Californian sunshine in the nineties, but, despite enjoying his time there, he found his well-known love of privacy had become compromised.
He explains, “It was very difficult with the house, because there was a constant stream of callers. It's not terribly pleasant because I'm very private.”
He has now relocated to Rome, where he finds the inherent style of the city’s residents helps him fight the onset of middle-aged spread.
“The preoccupation with style is so great. You have this constant feast of people who are trying to do their best with their bodies, and it shows.
“It keeps you on your toes. You can't go around looking like a big fat slob because you will be noticed.”
