An American judge has halted all sales of Notorious BIG’s 1994 album ‘Ready to Die’ after it was deemed it contains a sample of a song by Ohio Players without permission.
BIG’s label Bad Boy Entertainment were judged to have used excerpts of the song ‘Singing in the Morning’ without any green light.
On top of the ban, two record companies that own Ohio Players rights were awarded a whopping $4.2million in damages.
Bad Boy Entertainment plan to appeal against the ruling, with their lawyer saying outside court that the verdict was ‘without merit.’
As the BBC reports, Armen Boladian, owner of Ohio Players’ label Westbound and Bridgeport, said: "We've just been battling this for such a long time.
“So many have been settled because companies didn't want anything to do with it, and we knew we were right."
