Mighty Six Ninety – ‘Believable’ (Kids) Released 13/03/06

Mighty Six Ninety leader Rich Gardner has described himself as, ‘an arrogant self righteous prick.’  This however is totally belied by the evidence on show on 'Believable' in which he seems firmly cast as the sensitive indie frontman.  Thus he keens vocals about some broad that has his head all in a spin and is “almost evil,” unsurprisingly “beautiful” and most treacherous “believable.”  The music meanwhile is all melodic and sweetly produced 80s synths and guitars. The whole effect is a little close to cheesy but impossible to dislike. This and extra ‘Northern Border’ which repeats the trick of being more on the pop side of indie-pop remind most of all of A-ha.
