2005 was a great year for music but it lacked a certain feminine touch. 2006 however is more than making up for it with a whole raft of fantastic bands featuring girls popping up. The Like are hoping to join Be Your Own Pet , The Long Blondes and Giant Drag in establishing 2006 as the year girls take control. The Like however seem to be somehow too perfect. Lead singer Z Bergs Dad signed Beck to Geffen (coincidentally the home of The Like) and whilst 'June Gloom' is the comeback single Courtney Love is praying for it all seems a bit planned and safe. The single is a grungy mixture of driving guitars, angelic vocals and dance floor filling drums but it somehow leaves you feeling a bit cold. The Like try to transcend all the easy labels that you may be inclined to attach to them: however they have fallen short on this one.
