Ricky Wilson has hailed Preston form The Ordinary Boys as the architect of Kaiser Chiefs stunning success over the last twelve months.
With then Leeds five piece up for five gongs at tomorrow nights Brit Awards Wilson revealed that it was the star of Celebrity Big Brother who convinced his label to sign the them
He told the Sun: “It was Preston who convinced his boss at the B-Unique label to sign us. Otherwise we might still be unheard of. He went out of his way to help us. He pestered and pestered on our behalf because he had faith in us.”
Wilson added that if the band make it up on stage to claim an award he’ll thank Preston publicly for his help: “I can’t thank him enough – and I’ll say so from the stage if I get the chance.”
On the singers appearance on the celebrity reality TV show he said: “He is a good friend of mine. I thought he was mental to go on BB. But two days in I realised he had made the best decision of his life. He came across really well.”
Kaiser Chiefs are still shocked by their amazing success in 2005 says Wilson, recalling: "No one had even heard of us last year. We’d only had one single out on a little independent label – which got to number 66 in the charts.”
