Hope Of The States have revealed all about their upcoming second album and the first single to be taken from it.
The band will release ‘Left’ in May and front man Sam Herlihy told the BBC that the new material represents a new direction for the West Sussex six piece.
He says: "It doesn't really sound anything like the first record. There's a lot more songs as opposed to big, sort of, noise things. We just got a bit bored doing that, really... So it's a bit more concise than the first record. It's a bit more guitary."
Herlihy confirmed that the first single wil be the track ‘Blood Meridian’ and that it will be released “very soon” with a tour of small venues to coincide with it next month.
The album was recorded in studios across Europe, something that gave rise to many challenges for the band says Herlihy.
"We went to Prague and did strings and (worked with) a 15-piece male voice choir. They didn't speak English... So I was having to write things down phonetically so they could sing it."
Apparently the choir will appear on the track ‘The Good Fight’ "and also on ‘Sing It Out’, which is like a ridiculous house song. Like Joy Division goes disco with a 15-piece choir" said Herlihy.
