The Knife - 'Silent Shout' (Brille) Released 20/02/06

A few years on from their fantastic album ‘Deep Cuts’ which is rightfully enjoying renewed attention thanks to Jose Gonazalez’ cover of album track ‘Heatbeats’, Sweden’s finest The Knife are back with ‘Silent Shout’ - a limited edition taster from their second LP of the same name. If you’re expecting the same feel-good electro pop of their debut, then think again. This is a stripped-down almost minimal techno track centring on a simple, infectious bleepy hook and unusually restrained vocals whispering “In a dream I lost my teeth again” (?) from the wonderful Karin Dreifer. However, once you get over the initial shock, you soon realise that in an unsuspecting way it’s actually damn fine stuff. Typically, some top notch remixes are supplied on the flip-side with Williams hitting us with an acid re-working and Troy Pierce somehow out minimalising the original.
