Starsailor – ‘This Time’ (EMI) Released 23/01/06

Criticise Starsailor at any meeting of Bedwetters Anonymous, and the common line of defence will be “But they’re proper musicians! Playing real music!”.  In actuality, they’re no more “real” than anything ever churned out of Stock-Aitkin-Waterman’s Hit Factory, such is the formulaic nature of their songwriting.  ‘This Time’ is a predictable combination of the Britrock mopers’ trademark chiming piano, impassioned wailing and wannabe-epic chorus.  One can only hope they soon get tired of rewriting the same song every couple of months.  We’ve got tired of listening to it.
