Welsh three-piece the Stereophonics have confirmed they’ll be headlining next years Isle Of Wight Festival on Friday 11th June 2004. They will be joining veteran singer David Bowie who will be headlining on Sunday 13th June.
Their current album ‘You Gotta Go There To Come Back’ entered the charts at number one on its release in June this year. The album spawned the hits ‘Madame Helga’, ‘Maybe Tomorrow’ and ‘Since I Told You It’s Over’. The UK leg of their current world tour will conclude on 20th December 2003 at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff.
The original Isle Of Wight Festival took place in the late sixties and was the UK’s answer to Woodstock. The bill featured such legendary performers as Bob Dylan, The Who, Free, The Doors, Joni Mitchell and Jefferson Airplane. In 1970 Jimi Hendrix played what was to be his penultimate set at the event.
The festival returned in 2002 after a gap of thirty two years. The bill of course wasn’t nearly as legendary but nevertheless included The Charlatans, Led Zeppelin’s Robert Plant, Ash, Starsailor, The Coral and The Bees. This year’s festival again featured Starsailor, Paul Weller, Iggy Pop, Counting Crows, Bryan Adams and Cooper Temple Clause, John Squire, The Thrills, The Darkness, Hell is for Heroes and The Raveonettes.
Next years Isle Of Wight festival will take place at Seaclose Park in Newport from Friday 11th June to Sunday 13th June. Tickets will be £75 for the weekend and £35 for the day.
