UK pomp-rock heroes The Darkness are now favourites to score for this year's Christmas Number One. This is despite singer Justin Hawkins conceding the race.
The bands single ‘Christmas Time (Don’t Let The Bells Ring)’ is odds on at 8-11 according to Ladbrokes. However, there’s still stiff competition from the Pop Idol finalists hideous version of John Lennon’s ‘Happy Xmas (War Is Over)’ at 7-2.
Michael Andrews cover of the Tears For Fears song ‘Mad World’ is third favourite with Ladbrokes at 2-1.
A William Hill spokesman commented: "Nobody seems interested in backing the Pop Idol 12. We didn't take a single bet on them yesterday”.
It helps that The Darkness have been selling their single for £1.99 compared to £3.99 for the Bone Idol single. Both singles have been released this week (15th December).
