Rilo Kiley guitarist Blake Sennett may have had a damn busy year but that hasn’t stopped him writing a new album for his side project the Elected.
The new album ‘Sun, Sun, Sun’ will be issued on January 23 and is set to continue rootsy line of 2004’s ‘Me First’.
"I guess there's no rest for the wicked. I can't sit around. So when I sit around, I just start working on songs." Sennett told Rolling Stone.
Most of the album tracks were put down in spare moments during Rilo Kiley’s exhaustive 2005 touring schedule, in hotel rooms or at the back of the tour bus.
"When I'm on the road, if I feel bad, I have a tendency to be like, 'When I get home everything will be better'. But then there's a realization: 'Well, actually, this is my home. This is my life. These are my friends. This is everything. I'm here, so just try to enjoy it. Try to accept that.'
“I'd never been on the road for a year straight before, and it was a bizarre feeling. It was something that I had to reckon with. So there are some songs that deal with the reckoning of that."
The touring also had the influence of making this record a lot nooser than the previous explained Sennett. "When the other record was made, it was more of a bedroom project. But this one was heavily influenced by playing live. Touring a bunch, I think I have a tendency to get loud."
In a strange coincidence Rilo Kiley vocalist Jenny Lewis will release her first solo album ‘Rabbit Fur Coat’ on the same date. The pair plan to write material for Rilo Kiley’s new album shortly and hope to release it in late 2006.
