The performance that saw Eminem duet with Elton John at the Grammys in 2001 could be released as a single after radio stations in America began playing it.
Interscope Records and the Recording Academy in America now plan to release the live version of ‘Stan’ as a charity single according to an Academy spokesman.
Radio stations in Los Angeles and San Francisco begun playing the song after the Academy serviced the rendition to radio stations via satellite, and the tune has found its way onto Napster reports Rapmusic.com.
The track already features on Eminem’s greatest hits collection ‘Curtain Call’ and money from the single release would apparently go to charities such as MusiCares.
The controversial performance came amidst accusations that Eminem was homophobic and the rapper ended the duet by hugging Elton John and then giving the middle finger to the audience.
