The Sex Pistols, Black Sabbath and Lynyrd Skynyrd have all been given places in the US version of the Music Hall of Fame.
The British acts join Blondie, Miles Davis and A & M Records founders Jerry Moss and Herb Alpert in the 2006 induction.
Musicians can only be considered for the American gong 25 years or more after their first recording. The acts were whittled down by a panel of 700 industry judges.
As Reuters reports, The Sex Pistols’ guitarist Steve Jones told an LA radio station: "If I was 20, maybe I'd be upset (about being inducted), but it's all part of the game."
The American Music Hall of Fame ceremony takes place in New York on March 13.
