Poptones head honcho Alan McGee says that the debut album from Carl Barats new band Dirty Pretty Things “is turning into a classic”.
McGee, who seems to have worn the “classic” comment out on most of his acts, said on the poptones website: “I just spent yesterday in the studio with the band and producer Dave Sardy ... who did Oasis and Jet.”
He added: “And I’ve got to say that the sessions are going incredibly well. ‘Bang Bang’ is a massive hit. And so is ‘Deadwood’. The album is turning into a classic already. Dirty Pretty Things and Dave Sardy are super pleased with how the sessions are going.”
He also reported that he had spent sometime with Courtney Love as well, he said: “I’ve just come back from spending four hours in the studio with Courtney and she is in excellent shape. Her state of mind and being is the best that I’ve seen her in five years.”
“Her Buddhist techniques are keeping her strong mentally and physically. And the songs? The songs are classic. They are acoustic demos but they are the strongest songs that I’ve heard out of Courtney in ages.” Classic again, eh!
He went on about her new material: “They are heavy blues numbers ... the one that they talked about in the Guardian, ‘How Do Dirty Girls Get Clean’, is a classic Courtney Love billowy number. And the others are like PJ Harvey, heavy rock blues on acoustic.”
“I was just there as her mate and I’ve got to say that I’m really pleased that she’s got herself sorted. Three days after she left the rehab, she’s back in the studio and demoing the new songs. And they are incredible.”
Not one for an understatement then Alan!
