The future of the Shortlist Prize, America’s equivalent to The Mercury, has spiralled into uncertainty after a rift emerged between the award’s organisers.
The prize has been put on hold for 2005, with the founders coming up with an alternative ‘New Pantheon’ award in its place.
Recent winners of the prestigious Shortlist Prize include N.E.R.D and TV On The Radio.
According to the BBC, the judges for the New Pantheon award include Elton John and Garbage’s Shirley Manson.
