They'd like Ben Elton to write it...

Status QuoRock veterans Status Quo are to follow in the footsteps of other national treasures such as Queen and Rod Stewart by producing their own musical.

Francis Rossi and Rick Parfitt - who are currently celebrating the 40th year of their career - have said they would like Ben Elton to help them write the show.

Parfitt says, "It's been mentioned and I'd like to think it would be popular. I'd like Ben Elton to write it."

He jokes, "We'd open it at Butlins holiday camp (where the duo met) and end it with me dying on stage. "If I'm going to have a heart attack, then there's no better place to do it."

Elton was responsible for the Queen production 'We Will Rock You', which has proved to be a huge hit.

The Quo have recently seen a significant increase in record sales following appearances in Coronation Street.
