Green Day and Coldplay both received two awards each at last night’s MTV Europe awards.
Coldplay scooped the best UK and Ireland gong and best song for ‘Speed of Sound’, while Green Day walked away with best rock act and best album.
Elsewhere, Gorillaz were named as the Best Group, Robbie Williams took the best male award and James Blunt was named as the best new act.
Bob Geldof received the honorary Free Your Mind humanitarian award for all his work for Live 8
Stand out performances from the night came from Madonna made her first live performance of her new single ‘Hung Up’ arriving onstage in a giant disco ball and Gorillaz who projected holograms of themselves onto the stage.
Sacha Baron Cohen’s creation Borat Sagdiyev kicked things off in fine style, saying “Welcome to the 2005 Eurovision song contest.”
Other winners on the night were Alicia Keys as the best R & B Act, System of a Down as best alternative act, The Black Eyed Peas as best pop act and Shakira who was crowned best female.
