Fresh from their success as the only support act to Oasis just nine days earlier at the Paris Zenith, The Bandits took to the stage at the London Astoria with a definite spring in their step. The opening tune 'On My Way' with its heavy guitars and dark rhythm made a superb impact on the crowd and grabbed their attention immediately. The energy and enthusiasm displayed by frontman John Robinson is a definite winner, combining the confidence of someone who knows that their music works, with self-effacing acknowledgements to the audience. The role of a support band is never easy, but The Bandits approach the task with an assuredness that their time is coming. Their single 'The Warning' is the best received track of the evening and a quick look around confirms this as the crowd exchange knowing glances with each other. The final tune, a cover of The Clash's 'Guns of Brixton' is handled with great respect (and accuracy) and true to their obligations they leave the crowd warmed up and ready for more.
